Part of the Zombie Artists series, this is M.C. Escher reanimated: the Dutch artist who made impossible worlds out of architecture, perspective, and perception. Behind him, a steep mountain village and sky in motion recall the Italian landscapes that shaped his visual language during the years he lived and traveled there. From those walks came the vertiginous towns, precise structures, and shifting points of view that made his prints unmistakable. He drew staircases that never ended. Now neither does he.
